Bookham Light Operatic Society: Iolanthe

Live event or show

Description

Award winning Bookham Light Operatic Society proudly presents ‘Iolanthe,’ a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan. Performances are on Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th October at 7.30 p.m. with a Matinee on Saturday 26th at 2.30 p.m. Director: Keith White, Musical Director: Roger Wilman, Choreographer: Gill Eve.

Iolanthe contains some of Sullivan’s most beautiful music and Gilbert’s wit shines through.
Strephon, a shepherd and half a fairy, is in love with Phyllis, a Ward in Chancery and wants to marry her. His mother, Iolanthe -a fairy, married a mortal and thus was banished to the bottom of the stream by the Queen of the Fairies. The Lord Chancellor will not allow the marriage to take place as he wants to marry Phyllis himself. Strephon is then found talking to a very young lady and Phyllis spurns him. Will love conquer all? You will have to come along to the Nomad Theatre to find out!
